Atmosphere & Drinks
Craft beer, pig ears, and giant pretzels… Are you curious yet? The Hay Merchant comes from the Clumsy Butcher group and is located in Montrose. When you walk in you will be greeted by an array of beer taps and a brick wall that clearly displays beer names written in a chalk/blackboard style. The drink menu represents a fine selection of craft beer, everything from sours to stouts to IPA’s to wheat, they really have it all. Try something new here, this is not the place to go to for cheap domestics. For entertainment there’s pinball and a projection screen that rolls down that’s great if you want to catch the game. There’s also a cool small outdoor seating area that gives you a view of the Montrose landscape. During Friday and Saturday nights this place gets busy – there’s a steady flow of people coming in which can be a good or a bad thing. If you adore service we suggest coming here after work during happy hour.
What’s up with the name?
About 150 years ago there was a fellow named Westheimer who used to sell hay. Not only was he a businessman, this gentleman spoke more than 10 languages, built the first public school in the area on his own dime, and raised a large family. Pretty impressive eh?
