It’s almost Labor Day weekend, which means you either have sweet travel plans, you’re keeping it local in the city, or the world is your oyster and you’re up for absolutely anything. If you’re going for option 2 or 3, congratulations, you’ve chosen the path of least resistance. You now have the option to take advantage of a little less traffic, beautiful weather, and thousands of things to do around the city. So where do you start? We’ve narrowed it down to 10 things you might want to include in your itinerary.

Wake up at 4AM for a 7AM Alicia Keys concert

Friday – September 2nd

That’s right, you can start your Memorial Day weekend off with a bang with Singer-songwriter Alicia Keys. The amazingly talented artist will join TODAY.com’s summer concert series with a performance at Rockefeller Plaza. Attend this event for FREE, just make sure to get there early.

Dance the weekend away at Electric Zoo

September 2-4th

During labor day weekend, the urban jungle will host one of the largest electronic music festivals in the world. Electric Zoo will transform Randall’s Island into a “wild island” boasting 5 stages and featuring artists like Tiesto, Bassnectar, The Chainsmokers, Steve Aoki, and Lil Dicky.

Get to the beach without a car

We know there’s a lot of beach choices around NYC so we’ll share some of our favorites. The Far Rockaways offer plenty of secluded beaches with great surfing conditions. If you’re looking for a more developed scene, Jacob Riis beach bazaar hosts tons of food vendors and you can get there for less than $20 round trip (beer included). Whatever you decide, please just stay away from Coney Island. There’s really no excuse to go there unless you want whiplash from the cyclone.

Dance With Brazilians

Sunday – September 4th

Brazilians in NYC celebrate their country’s pride every Sunday during Labor Day weekend with samba in the streets. Get a taste of Carnival with live music performances, vibrant costumes and street dancing right in the heart of Manhattan on 46th street between 5th Avenue and Avenue of the Americas. Keep Brazilian day going through the late night at Hotel Chantelle.

Watch world class tennis at the US Open

August 29 – September 11th

Listen to amazing folk music in Brooklyn

Friday – September 2nd

Maybe the mayhem that is Electric Zoo isn’t you thing? Or maybe you just have a fond appreciation for all music genres. With splendid timing, the folks at Unit J have assembled an international lineup of folk rock musicians. At less than $10/ticket, this is one of the best deals of the weekend.

Saturday – September 3rd

From 1920s bootlegers to modern production, distilling is engrained in American culture. Learn about the history of one of our great national pass times while sipping on craft whiskey and moonshine at Kings County Distillery.

Slice your way into a gourmet grilled cheese workshop

Sunday – September 4th

Some would argue there’s nothing more rewarding than cooking. But cooking a delicious, gooey piping hot grilled cheese is child’s play right? Wrong. You have much to learn young padawan. Step into the kitchen with Murray’s Cheese and make your own masterpiece. Did we mention unlimited wine? Yep, that’s included too.

Go hiking, New York is a beautiful state

Take a train to access numerous hiking trails within 2 hours. Inwood Hill Park is the only non-landscaped park in the city, and offers steep hills and amazing views of the Hudson river. Outside of Manhattan, Harriman State Park, Mount Beacon, Poughkeepsie Rail Trail, and Breakneck Ridge all offer varying degrees of difficulty. Have a car? Check out Storm King for some amazing outdoor sculptures.

Take a last minute roadtrip, party outside of NYC

The possibilities are endless. Drive to Atlantic City to see Blink 182, or take a weekend trip to Montreal and see Armin Van Buuren at the Beachclub. Just remember, your coworkers can’t wait to hear your amazing stories, so make the best of the long weekend!
