Lucky for you, New York has a great selection of amazing music festivals that are fairly easy to get to. Rock ‘N Derby

When: May 20-22
Where: Schaghticoke, NY
What: Metal and rock fans rejoice! 3 days of music accompanied by a demolition derby
Located a few miles north of Albany in the Schaghticoke fairgrounds, Rock ‘N Derby serves music across 3 stages accompanied by food vendors, wrestling, and a demolition derby. This event is all ages, with on-site camping available. Tickets »

Mountain Jam

Where: Hunter Mountain, NY
What: 4 days of rock and jam nestled in the Catskill Mountains
Located at Hunter Mountain ski resort, the festival offers 40 bands across 3 stages in one of the most beautiful natural amphitheaters in the north east. Staying accommodations are plentiful, including on-site camping and condos, nearby hotels, lodges, and ski chalets. Governors Ball

When: June 3-5
Where: New York City, NY
What: NYC’s premier music festival encompassing a multitude of genres
Gov Ball takes place on Randall’s island off of Manhattan’s upper east side. The 3 day festival features rock, electronic, hip-hop, indie, pop, and more. Among large mainstream music festivals, Gov Ball is somewhat of an anomaly. It is run by one of the last independent promotion companies in the music industry (Founders Entertainment). Northside Festival

When: June 6-10
Where: Brooklyn, NY
What: 7 days devoted to content, innovation, and music spread across Williamsburg and Greenpoint
Northside highlights the talented artists making art, music and films right in your backyard. In addition to a music festival, it’s a gathering of cutting edge technology and out of the box thinking. No need to trek to a massive field in the middle of nowhere, Northside takes place in various venues and parks in the heart of north Brooklyn. Disc Jam

Taste of Country

Where: Hunter Mountain, NY
What: The premier Country music festival in the Northeast

Mystery Land

When: June 10-13
Where: Bethel Woods, NY
What: An electronic music wonderland located in the historic Woodstock ’69 campgrounds

Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival

When: July 13-16
Where: Brooklyn, NY
What: NYC’s largest and longest running hip-hop cultural event
Going on its 12th year, this festival showcases positive Hip-Hop culture by celebrating Hip-Hop’s legacy as a channel of artistic progression, community building, and social change. The music finale includes names like Nas and Fabolous, with events spanning from Crown Heights to Dumbo. Tickets »

Finger Lakes Grassroots Festival

When: July 21-24
Where: Trumansburg, NY
What: The spot to be for Americana roots music, featuring over 60 bands located near Ithaca, NY
Going on 26 years strong, The Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance started originally as a concert to benefit local AIDS support organizations. Fast forward to the present, GrassRoots is a nationally recognized event, unique in its focus on traditional and contemporary roots music, and one of the few self-sustaining non-profit arts organizations in the state. Where: New York City, NY
What: A strong and diverse lineup brought to you from the producers behind Coachella
Brand new to the festival circuit, 2016 is Panorama’s first year and they’re coming in strong with confirmed acts like Kendrick Lamar, Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, Alamaba Shakes, and more. Elements Music & Arts Festival

What: Electronic music and art festival on the Brooklyn water front.
Located on the Williamsburg waterfront, Elements Music Festival features four stages featuring large-scale themed art installations, 3D projection mapping, aerial performances, art cars, circus performances, and more.
